How Long Will My Spray Tan Last?

One question we get asked a lot is how long will the spray tan last? This is such an important question, as it may determine when the perfect day is to get your glow on, and helps you work out when the tan may start to fade.

One question we get asked a lot is how long will the spray tan last? This is such an important question, as it may determine when the perfect day is to get your glow on, and helps you work out when the tan may start to fade.

We use the best, most organic products, which means our average spray tan can last all the way up to 10 days!

Exactly how long your spray tan lasts will fully depend on your skin condition or skin type, but the good news is there are many ways to personally boost the life duration of your beautiful glow. Let’s get into some quick and easy ways to maintain your tan for as long as possible…

Moisturise…

Twelve hours after your first rinse, your tan will be done setting, which means you can shower again as per usual. In order to make your tan last as long as possible, we recommend you moisturise twice daily, morning and night. We know this may seem like a bit of a fuss- but trust us – moisturising twice daily really extends the lifetime of your tan!

One thing to be mindful of is the moisturiser you choose to use. It will be best to try use a basic lotion that isn’t oil-based, as anything rich in oil may remove your tan faster than average. When we say basic, we mean fragrance and alcohol-free.

If you are struggling to think of any of your moisturisers in your bathroom that don’t contain oils, alcohol or fragrance, we have got you covered. We stock Tan Lock and Tan Nourish, which are both awesome products to purchase if you are seeking the most effective moisturiser.

The Black Magic Tan Nourish body moisturiser is perfect for ensuring you make the most of your tan as the moisturiser is oozing with all things aimed at prolonging the life of your spray tan! The moisturiser contains cucumber, Aloe Vera and green tea extracts to give the most refreshing moisture to your skin. The Nourish moisturiser leaves you glowing, accentuating the radiance of your tan. Plus, Nourish moisturiser is SPF 15, which means it only leaves you glowing, not sunburnt and tomato red (which is amazing news if you are on holiday somewhere sunny!)

The Black Magic Tan Lock moisturiser is the perfect moisturiser to lock your tan in. The Tan Lock moisturiser is perfect for anyone going on holiday to somewhere lovely and may be swimming a bit more frequently. Tan Lock is quick and easy to apply, just a spray over the body and you are good to go! Tan Lock acts to lock in your tan and form a barrier between your lovely tan and the water you are floating around in. This ensures you can enjoy your holiday time away without feeling stressed about losing your tan every time you swim!

Using either Black Magic Nourish or Black Magic Lock is most effective if used within the first three days of your tan. Once your tan reaches day four, it may be best to move onto Black Magic Tan Xtend, to really prolong the glow!

Tan Xtend literally does what it says – it extends the life of your tan – making it your best friend! Tan Xtend contains the same self-tanning product that is in the original spray tan itself, which makes it perfect for when the tan starts to initially fade. Tan Xtend is amazing when you are on holiday somewhere and are in need of a tan that lasts a little longer than usual.

Try to Avoid…

Finally, to ensure your tan lasts as long as possible, we recommend you try to avoid certain things such as chemicals, soaking in water for long periods of time, and scrubbing!

First- chemicals. In order to make your spray tan last as long as possible, it is best to try avoid chlorinated pools to the best of your ability. We understand this may be hard to do, especially on holiday somewhere warm and tropical, so we simply recommend trying to keep any chlorinated swims short and sweet. It’s also good to know that the best remedy to swimming in the chlorine will be to try have a fresh-water rinse as soon as you jump out the pool.

Secondly- it is best to avoid soaking in water, especially hot water, for long periods of time. This means that avoiding long hot baths or showers, or floating in the ocean for long periods of time, will extend your tan longer. Soaking your tan in water will strip the layers of tan faster, meaning it won’t last as long.

Finally- try not to scrub or rub! One way to make your tan last longer is to avoid any activity that may rub against your tan, as anything that exfoliates your skin will remove a layer of your tan faster. Some common things that may exfoliate your tan off unconsciously include sand rubbing against your body, or rubbing yourself dry with a towel. One really effective way to make your tan last extensively and evenly is to pat dry with a towel after you get wet, to ensure you are not rubbing off your tan every time you dry yourself.

We hope to see you soon! x
